Last of the Bandit Riders....Revisited by Matt Warner Updated by Joyce Warner and Dr. Steve Lacy
My lifelong fascination with Butch Cassidy and the outlaws of Robbers' Roost began innocently with the cutout of a Butch photograph for a fourth grade history project in my home town, Blanding, Utah. A fortuitous meeting years later with Joyce Warner, the daughter of famous bandit-turned-lawman Matt Warner, turned my fascination into a fifteen year research project and the publication of this book.
Joyce confided that her father had not included some information about fellow outlaws in his original writing of Last of the Bandit Riders, to respect the privacy of the individuals and their families, and possibly to save their hides from implication of misdeeds. And to my amazement, Joyce revealed she had actually met Butch Cassidy and was in possession of letters he had written to Matt shortly after the original publication of his autobiography in 1938. We agreed it was time to revisit the past and shed some additional light on both of the last Bandit Rider........
It is ongoing hope that the research presented in this book opens more doors to the past and jogs a few memories about people and events whose time has come and gone but whose legends continue to grow.
